Page 3 of 6 PRIVACY POLICY
The Friends of the Macombs Bridge Branch Library ("FOMBBL") web site (the "Site") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy lets you know how information is processed and used on the FOMBBL web site. The Site uses your personal information only in ways that are compatible with this Privacy Policy.
INFORMATION COLLECTION FOMBBL is the sole owner of the information collected from our website. We do not, or will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in our privacy statement below.
SUMMARY On the FOMBBL web site, no more information is collected than is typically collected in server logs by web sites in general.
Each time a Visitor visits the FOMBBL web site, the FOMBBL web server recognizes the Visitor's domain name (IP address).
FOMBBL collects the email addresses of Site Visitors who communicate with FOMBBL by email. The information that FOMBBL collects is used for internal review, unless otherwise disclosed.
If a Site Visitor posts anywhere on the FOMBBL web site, the Visitor is publishing every word publicly. If you write something, assume that it will be retained forever. This includes the petition, wish list, articles, article comments, and the Thought's comment areas. Some limited exceptions are described below.
If a Site Visitor posts on the Site the Visitor will be identified by the Visitor's network IP address. The IP address identifies the Internet address from which the Visitor is contacting the Site. Depending on the Visitor's connection, this number may be traceable only to a large Internet service provider, or specifically to the Visitor's school, place of business and home. Thus it will be available to developers and site administrators and may be released under certain circumstances (see below).
COOKIES A cookie is a piece of data stored on the Visitor's hard drive containing information about the Visitor. These are not linked to any personal identification.
LOG FILES FOMBBL keeps log files on broad fields to analyze trends, track user movements, and gather data for demographic locations. Every time a Visitor visits a web page, the Visitor sends information to the web server. Most web servers routinely maintain access logs with a portion of this information, which can be used to get an overall picture of what pages are popular, what other sites link to this one, and what web browsers people are using. It is not the intention of the FOMBBL web site to use this information to keep track of legitimate users. Log data is only used in aggregate to analyze usage of the FOMBBL web site. These logs are used to produce site statistics; the raw log data is not made public and may be seen by developers and FOMBBL web site administrators. Log data may be examined by developers and web site administrators in the course of solving technical problems, in tracking down badly-behaved web spiders that overwhelm the site, or in investigating abuse of the Site. These logs are not attached in anyway to a Visitor's personal identification.
COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL PROCESS It is the policy of FOMBBL that personally identifiable data collected in the server logs will not be released by the developers and web site administrators who have access to it, except as follows:
- In response to a valid subpoena or other compulsory request from law enforcement;
- With permission of the affected Visitor;
- To FOMBBL, their legal counsel, or their designee, when necessary for investigation of abuse complaints;
- Where the information pertains to page views generated by a spider or bot and its dissemination is necessary to illustrate or resolve technical issues;
- Where the Visitor has been vandalizing the site, site content or persistently behaving in a disruptive way, data may be released to assist in the targeting of IP blocks, or to assist in the formulation of a complaint to relevant Internet Service Providers;
- To protect the rights, property or safety of the Friends of the Macombs Bridge Branch Library;
- To protect the rights, property or personal safety of Site Visitors or the public.
FOMBBL policy does not permit public distribution of such information under any circumstance, except as described above.
SHARING At this time, FOMBBL does not sell or share any information with advertisers, merchants, or any other third party unless a Visitor agrees to release this information.
LINKS Links to other sites outside of FOMBBL do not apply to this Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the privacy policies of other websites linked to FOMBBL. Please read the Privacy Policy of each website linked to FOMBBL for information and data use of the Visitor's personal identification. Our Privacy Policy applies solely to FOMBBL.
CONTESTS, PROMOTIONS & SURVEYS Visitors may choose to participate in FOMBBL promotions, contests and optional surveys. This would mean that Visitor participation for these contests is voluntary, and in no way requires the Visitor to give out personal information when choosing not to enter in the contest, promotion and survey. The nature and type of collected information will vary and may include personal contact information and demographic information, such as name, email, address, state, etcetera. This information will be used to notify the winners of award prizes. If this information is to be shared with a third party, we will notify the Visitor at the time of collection.

FOMMBL may offer children features and activities on the Site which do not require children to provide any personal information. In using these features, however, FOMBBL may collect certain non-personal information from children by using cookies. FOMBBL collects email addresses from children who sign the Petition and when they post on the Wish List and in Comment areas of the Site. The email addresses however are not published with the petition or comment posts. Also, email addresses from children are obtained if they participate in contests, promotions and surveys. FOMBBL, however, will not make a child's participation in any FOMBBL web site activity contingent on that child's disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity.
FOMBBL will only transfer or otherwise disclose the information it collects from children to authorized developers and site administrators for statistical and technical purposes.
FOMBBL will transfer or otherwise disclose personal children's information as delineated in response to the legal processes delineated in the "Compliance with Legal Process" section of the FOMBBL Privacy Policy,
FOMBBL's concern regarding use of the Site by children has been formed with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving. Accordingly, guidelines are subject to change. In the unlikely event of such changes they will be posted on this page. If the changes represent a material departure from our current practices with respect to the use of children’s personal information, the changes will be posted on this page thirty days prior to taking effect.
SECURITY OF INFORMATION FOMBBL only allows access to personal information by authorized persons engaging in activity provided for by FOMBBL.
CHANGES OF FOMBBL'S PRIVACY POLICY On occasion, it may be necessary for us to change the terms of the FOMBBL Privacy Policy. FOMBBL will do so by posting updated text on this site, and the Visitor's continued use constitutes acceptance of those changes. To ensure that the Visitor is aware of current privacy practices, FOMBBL recommends that the Visitor check this web site periodically. FOMBBL will not materially change how it handles previously collected information without providing notice and an opportunity to choose how we use that information.
